Project Imports

Compose a version from another project and review source updates before applying them

Open Model → Project imports, or Overview → Project utilities → Manage imports. A project import brings an accessible source project's active version into your selected destination version as a read-only System.

For a portable backup or transfer file, use archive import/export instead.

Preview Before Importing

  1. Check the destination's working version.
  2. Choose a source project. Projects without an active version, already-imported sources, or circular dependencies can be unavailable.
  3. Inspect the source and destination version labels.
  4. Review Resource coverage and Hierarchy preview, including omitted resources and unsupported depth.
  5. Choose Import as system when the preview matches your intent. Editor access is required.

The hierarchy shifts by one level: source Project → destination System, System → Container, Container → Component, and Component → Block. Detail beyond supported depth cannot be carried over; the preview explains omissions and affected links.

Imported And Source-Only Resources

The coverage table identifies Imported, read-only resources and Source only resources. Source links open the original project. Views and Architecture Documents are excluded from the copied resource graph; linked documents in imported Handbooks remain available from the source Handbook.

Change imported content in its source project. Importing is not a live subscription that applies every source edit immediately.

Review Source Updates

Use the imported-system inventory to review source updates. Inspect added, modified, and removed resources, plus the impact on local workflow mappings, Views, deployment links, capabilities, data ownership, behavior, and document references.

Retained resource identities and destination layout are preserved during supported updates. A removed source element can still remove or invalidate links that depend on it. Live document references follow retained resources; pinned evidence and saved checkpoints retain their captured content.

Capture a checkpoint before a significant update, then choose Update imported system. If the preview becomes stale, refresh it before applying. Compare the resulting saved model with your checkpoint afterward.
